-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                 CHARINFO v1.0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Add-on accessory for NortQuest II games.
Features detailed inventory and status reports, plus backup game capability.

Blurb
-----
If you enjoyed playing NortQuest II, then this will make your experience
immensely more enjoyable. While it may be possible to run NortQuest II
and CharInfo on a calculator with only 32K, it would really be pushing the
limit. You probably won't be able to use the backup function.

Now, in case your character doesn't make it the first time, save your
progress frequently so you can reload the game where you last saved.

Specifications:
---------------
Program Size 4815 bytes (you can run RF on it if you want to)

Loading CharInfo
----------------
Move to the NortQuest II directory you want to modify.
Send the CharInfo.BIN file directly into the directory.

There should now be a file called CHARINFO in the first slot of your
menu. CHARINFO is a self-contained program, which means it's the only
   file of the program.

NOTE: It is possible to place CHARINFO in a directory ABOVE the NortQuest
          II directory.

How do I run CharInfo?
----------------------
When in the Main Movement Screen of the game, press I. If all went well,
a display should pop-up showing your character and a menu in the top-left
   corner.

CharInfo Menu Commands
----------------------
[I] Inventory - Displays an inventory of your current spells and
special items. Use the up and down arrow keys to
                       move through the display.

[S] Status - Displays your Level, Experience points, the number of
experience points to advance to the next level, your
gold piece amount, and any long-duration spells in effect.

[B] Backup - Saves ALL the game information to a file called
                    'Backupgame'. See Backup.

[R] Restore - Retrieves the Backupgame file and replaces all current
game information with the information in the backup file.

   [<-] Exit CharInfo (BackSpace key)

Backup
------
Please keep in mind that a backup game will probably require at least
6K of memory. Don't use this feature if you are running low on ram.
(NortQuest should require about 5-8K free to safely run, but the exact
amount is just about impossible to determine. Play it safe.)

This file can ONLY be used with this scenario. Retrieving it into another
scenario or especially a NortQuest I scenario could produce unusual or
disastrous results. (Like a memory clear.) The previous NortQuest games
are less stable than NortQuest II, but using System-RPL or ML at all
inherently makes it impossible to assure total safety.

Oh, and don't alter the backup file. Just like the other files, there's
no telling what could happen if you change certain parts of it...

Retrieving a backup file if you die
-----------------------------------
If your character dies, and you want to restore a backup file, you have
   two options:
1: Start a new game. When you reach the Main Movement Screen, you
can press I and restore the game from there.

2: Run CharInfo WITH NOTHING IN THE STACK. It will search for a
backup game file, and if found, ask you if you want to retrieve it.
Once this is done, you can run TITLE and press C to continue.
