--------- SpaceNews --------- MONDAY JANUARY 23, 1989 SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, NJ, and is available on packet radio bulletin board stations across the North America and around the world on the MTTBS telephone BBS at (201) 494-3649, the Unix UUCP USENET News Network, and also on WangNet. * OSCAR-9 NEWS * ---------------- Three of the four HF beacons on OSCAR-9 have been switched ON and are transmitting telemetry using 12 WPM morse code. The frequencies are 14.002, 21.002 and 29.510 MHz. Beacon output powers are 100mW each. Reception reports should be sent to UoSAT Mission Control. A video image of the earth was taken by OSCAR-9's ground pointing CCD camera at 09:21:00 UTC on 17Jan89, and transmitted via the VHF beacon. CCD images are taken weekly by OSCAR-9. The time the image is taken depends on illumination, but during the Northern Hemisphere winter months, this will either be on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings, UTC. CCD images are transmitted until 00:00 UTC on Thursday, when the beacon will switch to Digitalker telemetry. The Digitalker transmits spacecraft telemetry in plain english for educational use. The telemetry channels currently read by the Digitalker include: 08 : Battery Pack A Temperature (C) 09 : Spacecraft +X Facet Temperature (C) 17 : Magnetometer Experiment -Hz Fine 18 : Battery Pack B Temperature (C) 19 : Spacecraft -X Facet Temperature (C) 27 : Telecommand Receiver Current (mA) 28 : Radiation Experiment Temperature (C) 29 : Spacecraft -Y Facet Temperature (C) >From Thursday evening (UTC), the spacecraft transmits the following sequence of data at 1200 bits/s: Telemetry : 60 seconds Bulletin : 60 seconds Whole Orbit Data (WOD) : 150 seconds This sequence continues until 00:00 UTC on the following Tuesday, when the beacon switches off, ready for a software reload. The WOD channels currently being surveyed include: Day Channels ---------+----------- Tuesday : 22, 23, 30 Friday : 3, 13 Saturday : 3, 13 Sunday : 1, 3, 13 Monday : 1, 23, 49 --------------------- * OSCAR 10 NEWS * ----------------- AMSAT-OSCAR-10 is free for Mode B use whenever it is found operating. No eclipses are expected until the 15th of February. Watch OSCAR-13's beacon for late AO-10 operation updates. * OSCAR 11 NEWS * ----------------- Upgrades to OSCAR-11's new Forth Applied Diary (FAD) have taken place. Software version 1.6 is currently in operation.
