I've been told that his original last name is Brandeaux (same pronunciation,
Americanized spelling).

Hehehe. Actually he fell in love with a Tahitian, namely, the island beauty who
was his love interest in that movie. Don't know if he married her, but they had
a child, a boy, I believe.

Incidentally, Brando played Fletcher Christian, whose descendent, Tom
Christian, VP6TC, still lives on Pitcairn Island to this day.

Dick Tracy, the square jawed comic strip detective, was well known
for his 2-way "wrist radio," but aside from eavesdropping gear,
real detectives use more conventional radio equipment. The readily
available 'Police Call' directory lists most frequencies used by
police investigators, and there are published lists of frequencies used
by federal investigators, but where can you hear private detectives?
... real-life private eyes portrayed by shows like Barnaby Jones, Columbo,
Mannix, Cannon, and Booker?

Here is a sampling of frequencies licensed to private investigators.
Although most are located in Illinois, some can be used across the
country.

Poor excuse! Do you also apply that logic to, say, income tax evasion? Vote

The privacy portions of it were intended to forbid disclosure of private (as
opposed to BC) information which one happened upon by chance. I do not believe
the authors anticipated that a cult of people who search out such information
would arise. In that sense ECPA is a correction of an omission. If the authors
of the CommAct had anticipated that cult, the CommAct provisions you cite as
permission would not likely exist.

    Date: 21 Nov 89 00:24:32 GMT
    From: vsi1!daver!lynx!neal@apple.com (Neal Woodall)

If radio waves reach into my home, then I have a right to receive and
    attempt to demodulate them.

Where did you get this idea from? It's not in the Bible, the Constitution,
the Communications Act of 1934, the ECPA, or anyplace else that I know about.
It's a nice idea, it's one that I approve of, but it is NOT one of the
recognized rights of society, in the USA or in any other country.

Governments have the unlimited right, which they have exercised in the past
and continue to exercise, to determine not only who may transmit via radio
and what they may transmit and when they may transmit it and what kind of
equipment and antennas they may use, and who may fix them when they break,
but also to regulate the reception of radio waves (including who and when
and how and with what). The various state scanner and radar-detector laws
are examples, as are the ECPA and the Communications Act of 1934 and the
zoning regulations of Boulder County.

If you think that the government's rights in this area ought to be
restricted, or the individual's rights made clearer, you should exercise
your unquestioned right to petition your government for redress of
grievances. However, simply declaring that you have a right to receive
based on some layman's notion of the laws of trespass does not create
that right.

Again, let me say that I agree with the spirit of what you're saying.
And I'm not picking on Neal particularly; he's one of many people in
this group who have said or thought the same thing. But wishful
thinking, even if it has a certain amount of moral force, is not the
same as a right, God-given or otherwise.
