(A BUNCH OF STUFF DELETED ABOUT RADIO REGULATION IN PRC)

A friend was visiting recently from Hong Kong. He said that 10 mtr
CW is almost unusable in PRC because of the government looking the
other way when non-ham interests want to use 2 way radio there.
This is also true outside of PRC. I guess the availability of
10 and 11 mtr radios is just too tempting.

For the past 4 days I have been picking up police transmissions on
42mHz from California. Pretty good skip, I would say, considering I
am in Michigan. I have caught 18 different frequencies in the 42
mHz range from 10:00 am EST - 2:00 pm EST. The locations that have
been given range from San Diego to Sacramento/Oakland/Berkeley.
My question is - is the 42 mHz range a statewide Sheriff frequency
for California? There have been no license designations given
(i.e. KMG367, etc). Can anyone give me some information about
this? I have been having a great time listing to these
transmissions! I have a Bearcat 800XLT with an outside antenna.
Thanks

It's been better than that. 6 meters (50 MHz) was wide open to Europe
Wednesday through Saturday this past week (11/8-11/11), and yesterday,
11/12, the band was open to the west coast (W6/W7, but alas, no Alaska or
Hawaii yet). Some solar flares this weekend seem to have taken the edge
off, but look for good conditions to return no later than this same time
next month.

Subject: A new ham

I was quite touched to receive the following email from a new ham, and
thought it was worth sharing with the rest of the world. (I have deleted
the name, since I didn't get his permission to print this letter):

	Dear Diana,

I want to thank you very much for creating the
hypercard stacks, they helped me allot to study for my exams. I study
best when I can "hang" the information on something.

When I took the exam, I was so nervous that I forgot my street
address. One of the questions asked me to draw a block diagram of a
simple ham station, the supervisors were impressed.

I actually knew some theory to begin with. When I took your
simulated exam I didn't pass, but after about 20 rounds I was progressing
into the 70's-80's. I couldn't have done it without you!

Sincerely,
       <name deleted>, N6WUR (Technician)

P.S. I am 13 years old.

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for another young HAM. Now if I can just get
my 13 year old going on this....

Subject: Heath HA10 manual wanted

Well, last saturday while "working the un-net" as they say,
I ran across someone who was looking for the manual for a
Heath HA10 Kw Linear. In fact, I found him calling for help
at 28.410 and later at 28.320. I felt so sorry for him that
I offered to post here.

So, if you've either got a manual, or know where to find one,
how about getting in touch with :

Please do not email me, I've only spoken to this gentleman
twice on the air. Thanks!

Peter, so these should be available shortly.

There is a public domain package called MacMorse and a commercial package
called MacMorse also. I have both, having first paid for the latter....
I do believe they are from the same person....they do operate identically
the same. In any case, I'm at work and don't have the addresses available
here. If you're still interested, send me an email and I'll hunt them
up at home.

CHEERS! Thanks!

We are looking at installing two commercial repeaters on Campus plus
inhouse paging (all on UHF).

Does anyone have any experience with the Zetron Repeater Managers? They
seem to have alot to offer for the money but would be interested in any
pros or cons.
