(look at the battery connector on a forklift the next time you are in manufacturing and it probably will be made by Anderson). Most of the clubs in the Sacramento area seem to be standardizing on the Andersons, probably because the ARES/RACES group and the Calif. Office of Emergency Services uses them. Our club deceided to go with the Andersons and made a group purchase. Since most of us already had our own "standard" we just made a few adapters from our "standard" to the Andersons. They go in the bag along with the 2 prong to 3 prong adapter, BNC to So239, BNC to N,Stereo to mini stereo, stereo to RCA, ... ;-) Face it, it's a nonstandard world out there! If you need any Andersons, call Metro and they can send you some. If you do, say hi to Hugh Corkery (KA6CPN) for me. I subscribe to the following: rec.ham-radio > rec.radio.amateur.misc > rec.ham-radio.swap > rec.radio.swap >Are there others? The reason you see groups with overlapping purposes is that the rec.ham-radio hierarchy is undergoing a reorganization. About 3 weeks ago, the Usenet community voted to do the following: move rec.ham-radio to rec.radio.amateur.misc move rec.ham-radio.packet to rec.radio.amateur.packet move rec.ham-radio.swap to rec.radio.swap create rec.radio.amateur.policy create rec.radio.cb During this transition period, both the old groups and the new groups will still be there, with the traffic shifting to the new groups as more and more systems create them. In a couple of weeks, the old groups will be removed. I suggest that you use the new groups to reach the biggest audience. Some systems will repost your message to the new group, but don't depend on that - do it yourself. This is only a temporary measure. -- Jay Maynard, EMT-P, K5ZC, PP-ASEL | Never ascribe to malice that which can jmaynard@thesis1.hsch.utexas.edu | adequately be explained by stupidity. The adds for it can be found in QST magazine. If you live in the West Los Angeles area, Jun's electronics have them in stock. They run about $600. Independant squelch and volume controls. There is a PTT mike to go with it. Only one type of battery, 7.2 volts @ 700 mA. While there is no longer range attenna for it yet, I guess in time someone will have them out. To get priveledges below 30mhz equal to those that the most recent Tech's now enjoy (i.e. Novice priveledges) the new Tech must pass ONLY the 5wpm code before a VE team. /s/ Bob ------------------------------ Date: 1 Mar 91 22:03:26 GMT From: sdd.hp.com!spool.mu.edu!sol.ctr.columbia.edu!src.honeywell.com!skyler.mavd.honeywell.com!estey@ucsd.edu Subject: Packet Radio Messages to Desert Storm Troops - An offer. To: info-hams@ucsd.edu For the past several months I have, as an ARMY MARS member, been sending on a daily basis large quantities of messages going to our U.S. military personnel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). These messages have been from friends, neighbors, and business associates - over 1,300 messages including those refiled from my amateur radio packet BBS. Although peace seems at hand, we shouldn't forget the folks now overseas since the prospects are that many of them will be there through the Summer. So, I encourage you to send your messages going to service personnel in KSA on behalf of friends, neighbors, business associates - anyone. I will be happy to accept those messages here and file them into the MARS message system. While no promises can be made about speed of delivery, we hear that messages get there in about 4 days. A big plus is that the message service is FREE! There is a specific format for the messages which I will send later if anyone is interested - lenght is 30 words max. 73 de Carl WA0CQG @ WA0CQG.MN.USA.NA ------------------------------ End of Info-Hams Digest ******************************
