This rewrite should be available in 2-3 weeks. It is approximately 65 pages and includes schematics. If anyone would like a copy of this, please send me mail. The schems are pretty light, and those would be difficult to send over the network. In these cases, a SASE would be required. INFO: There are two unpublished codes for remote control on 590. C99 Crossband Repeater ON D00 or D01 (using my memory) Crossband Repeater OFF Jay (KA1SNA) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Feb 91 14:29:31 EST From: jay@zen.cac.stratus.com (Jay Appell) Subject: Alinco 590 To: Info-Hams@zen.cac.stratus.com Alinco Inc. has announced that a modification to receive aircraft and the 800mhz band is in the making. They are currently working a mod that I mentioned in previous mail to receieve airband. They are now working the details to receieve 800Mhz based on public (HAM) opinion polls taken in the field (stores, hamfests etc.). Question: Has anyone made any modifications to the radio that could be inserted into the new users guide that have not already been mentioned? Possible mods requested: o Id module with timer o Aircraft Receive (Alinco to do) o 300,600,800mhz Receive (Alinco to do) Thanks to all who have sent mail on the 590: jay@zen.cac.stratus.com With the mail I am receiving, you would almost think this is a cult following (hihi). The manual is shaping up nicely. If anybody is willing to test out pieces of the manual and procedures, be sure to let me know. I will be sending out some this week. To: info-hams@ucsd.edu Hello, I'm a ham who hasn't been active for the past several years, tho I have kept my license in order. I recently was surprised to receive a QSL card from a gentleman in the Netherlands confirming "our" contact in early January. In a letter, he said that it was with "peggy" from Maryland, but the call letters w ere mine (KA3HZY), and my name is Scott in Pennsylvania. Is there anyway I can find out if someone is actully using my letters illegally? Thanks in advance! One distinct possibility as to what happened is that the person in the Netherlands miscopied or misspelled your callsign. He may have worked somebody quite legitimately, but may have unfortunately got the call wrong. If you suspect a pirate, I don't think there is a foolproof way to locate the individual. You may want to write to the person in the Netherlands and ask for more info on his QSO. If you were rare DX, you could write to DX journals, but for a U.S. ham, I don't think it's worth it. ----------------- speech technology and research, sri, menlo park, california --- Goh Kawai --- work:(415)859-2231 fax:(415)859-6171 home:(415)964-1782 ----------------- internet: kawai@speech.sri.com radio: n6uok and jk1zyp ------------------------------ End of Info-Hams Digest ******************************
