About fifty satellite enthusiasts were in attendance. Presentations included a report on the N6IIU DCE station, status of the Electronics Museum, along with a detailed report on the three hexadecimal and seven decimal numbers contained in the header of RTTY telemetry on AO-13. Representing AMSAT-NA were President Doug Loughmiller (KO5I) and Vice President for Operations Courtney Duncan, N5BF. Doug addressed the assembly, discussing the current priorities of AMSAT-NA leadership and goals got this year. Elections were held for the Board of Directors with the following voted to the Board: N6TX, K6GSJ, K6LFH, WB6KCJ, W6NBI, KB6HWV,KA6JWI. Officers and appointees for 1989 are: Paul Shuch, N6TX Chairman of the Board Ross Forbes, WB6GFJ President Nick Marshall, W6OLO Vice-President Gil Morris, WB6KCJ Treasurer Margaret Nakayama, WB6HWV Secretary Jeffrey Pawlan, WA6KBL Technical Director Gary Nakayama, KH6JRB User Services Director During and after the meeting, Doug and Courtney held detailed discussions with Project OSCAR President, Ross Forbes, WB6GFJ, in addition to other officers and members. These talks focused on way in which Project OSCAR and AMSAT-NA can coordinate their complimentary goals and capabilities to promote the use of amateur radio satellites and to maximize the utility and enjoyment of satellite operators worldwide. In particular, Project OSCAR serves as a North American clearing house for satellite related software from around the world. Some of these offerings will support AMSAT-NA Operations teams for satellite tracking and telemetry acquisition. Relevant user hardware projects and their applicability to certain AMSAT-NA ground based projects were also discussed. These include inexpensive microwave filters and a proposed universal tracking adapter as presented by Project OSCAR Technical Director, Jeffrey Pawlan, WA6KBL. Gary Nakayama, KH6JRB, Director of User Service announced activities for 1989 which will include an all day AO-13 "users" seminar (similar to those held for OSCAR-10). The seminar is scheduled for the May/June time frame and will be held in San Mateo (CA). Details about the meeting along with additional announcements made at the annual meeting will be released shortly through the AMSAT-NA News Service. "We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to build and trengthen our connections with this fine group," said Courtney, "We are looking forward to working together on a number of mutually beneficial project in the near future." /EX SB ALL @ AMSAT $ANS-035.02 10 METER NET FOR BEGINNERS HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 035.02 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD FEBUARY 4, 1989 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT A New 10 Meter Net To Commence For OSCAR Satellite Beginners On Sundays In keeping with AMSAT's goal of education, a new net will commence on Sunday, Febuary 12, 1989 at 19:00 UTC on a frequency of 28.460 MHz. This weekly HF net will have as its Net Control Station (NCS) Vinnie Banville, WB2YBA. The frequency of this AMSAT "Novice/Technician" Net was choosen specifically for the purpose of attracting Novice and Technician class licensees and introducing them to the world of OSCAR satellites. This net will include a wide range of topics for discussion related to using this exciting mode amateur radio satellite communica- tion, eg., transponder modes, satellite tracking programs, antennas, equipment, simple orbital mechanics, etc. The level of the discussions are intended to be introductory in nature. All are invited to check into this net and welcome Vinnie as he starts this new AMSAT "Novice/Technican" Net. /EX SB ALL @ AMSAT $ANS-035.03 Short Bursts HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 035.03 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD FEBUARY 4, 1989 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT Short Bursts Listen for the HF beacons of UoSAT OSCAR-9 on a frequency of 7.050 MHz, 14.002 MHz, 21.002 MHz, and on 29.502 MHz. Also, listen for the UO-9 DIGITALKER on the downlink frequency of 145.825 MHz. The HF beacons are part of a ionospheric propagation experiment. It has been forcasted that UO-9's orbit will decay soon causing it to burn up when it re-enters the earth's atmosphere. This "firery death" is expect to occur sometime in the fall of '89. This may be your last chance to hear this longest surviving amateur satellite. UO-9 was launched October 6, 1981 from Vandenberg AFB aboard a Delta rocket. It has been reported that VE8CM, of Hay River, Northwest Territories, made a contact with UA3MIR on January 23, 1989 at 18:47 UTC on a downlink frequency of 145.650 MHz FM.
