                              Quick Introduction

Welcome to the ACU SS Processor! This will be a brief introduction
to the operation of the SS Processor to allow you to demonstrate the
program to yourself without having to read the entire User's Guide and
Reference Manual, which is included with this program.

The SS Processor is provided on a disk or disks which contain(s) the
   following files:

        READ.ME This file!
SS.EXE The SS Processor executable module.
SS.DOC The SS Processor User's Guide and Reference Manual.
        ACUSS.CPF A configuration file used by SS.EXE.
SAMPLE.IN Sample input file with no data entry errors.
ERROR.IN Sample input file with data entry errors.
LONG.IN Long sample input file with no data entry errors.

As with any newly-acquired software diskette, the first thing that
you should do is make a backup copy of each diskette and put the
original away in a safe place.

I recommend strongly that you print SS.DOC, the User's Guide and
Reference Manual, before going any further. The User's Guide is 43 pages
long, and is formatted for printing on an IBM/EPSON MX-80 printer. You
should initialize the top-of-sheet to actually be about three lines from
the bottom of the last page: I will figure out this word processor
eventually, but until then you must compensate! While printing, you
should verify that the page headers and footers fall on the page.

Put your copy of the Code Distribution diskette on the default
drive, and a scratch diskette on your second drive (see the User's
Guide, Section III, if you have questions). To start the SS Processor,
   type:

                             SS (carriage return)

The SS Processor will load into memory, and display the User-
Supported Software notice. After you've read the notice, press any key.

At the input file prompt, enter the name of an input data file.
Three sample input files are provided on the Code Distribution diskette,
SAMPLE.IN, ERROR.IN, and LONG.IN. Start by using the SAMPLE.IN data
file, and then try the others.

At the output file prompt, specify and output filename on your
scratch disk ('b:out' is good enough).

If all is well, the SS Processor will take over, and will quickly
complete processing the input data. If you type or print the output
file, you will see the format produced.

The LONG.IN file is provided to allow you to see how quickly the SS
Processor can handle a fairly substantial log, in this case almost 1400
   QSOs.

If you have any questions, read the User's Guide. If, after reading
the instructions, you still have questions, you may contact me by mail,
phone, or Compuserve. Please, do not call on contest weekends or late at
   night Eastern time!

I am very interested in hearing your comments on the SS Processor,
and any ideas you may have for other contest programs. Please take the
time to scribble some notes and send them to me!
