                        THE 440 SPOILER: VERSION 1.01

The 440 Spoiler is a software package that lets amateur radio operators,
short-wave listeners, and other people enjoy the full operating power of the
Kenwood TS-440S transceiver. It provides TS-440S users with much more
intelligent and convenient control of their transceivers than they can obtain
by purchasing much higher-priced equipment such as the Icom IC-781 at 1/100th
the price differential.

FEATURES OF THE 440 SPOILER

Running the Spoiler is largely intuitive. After you connect your TS-440S
to your MSDOS computer through an RS232 adapter, you can probably run the
Spoiler without reading the extensive documentation that is provided. But as
it is with any other high-tech project that a large number of people can
benefit from and enjoy, so it is with the Spoiler. If you need documentation,
you do most certainly have it in the Spoiler software package.

You will, however, probably want to at least browse through the 440
Spoiler User's Manual and the 440 Spoiler Technical Reference Manual before
you plunge into more productive work and enjoyable play with your TS-440S.
Although the Spoiler is designed to be intuitively obvious and to protect you
from losing a single bit of memory in your transceiver, your knowing the basic
concepts of Spoiler operation both prevents frustration and protects you from
what you might inadventantly do with approaching the Spoiler as most people
approach video games. The 440 Spoiler is a brief document that gets the
spoiler up and running for you. After you read it, you will be able to play
with the Spoiler and your transceiver with minimal frustration and no harm.

If you are an extremely careful, meticulous, and prudent operator (as
most American hams are), you will also want to keep the 440 Spoiler Technical
Reference Manual close at hand while you work with the details of Spoiler
operator. The technical reference manual provides you with definitive
information about the "innermost secrets" of Spoiler operation so that you can
most productively use the software package in your particular operating
practices.

LICENSING THE 440 SPOILER

The Spoiler software package is yours to try out with our approval for an
entire month while you decide whether it is to become a part of your radio-
operating and computing life. Within the month, you should decide whether you
want to contribute to both the hundreds of hours of development that have
already gone into the Spoiler and the hundreds of hours that will go into it
over the next year. If you decide to contribute, you get more than a clear
conscience in further use of the Spoiler.

For your $39 contribution you get the latest revision of the Spoiler on
diskette. Public distribution of the latest maintenance revisions and
enhancements will necessarily lag distribution to licensed users. Within one
year of your registration, you may obtain the most-advanced version of the
Spoiler that has been released by free download from the Spoiler's home
bulletin-board system or by your paying the exact cost of diskette shipment.

You also get a professionally produced copy of the corresponding version
of the 440 Spoiler Technical Reference Manual. Typset on laser printer and
bound, the document is worth more than the price of the entire Spoiler package
for the TS-440S user.

In addition, you get one year of online support (via mail or more real-
time through the Spoiler's home bulletin board) for your using the Spoiler.
Should you have any questions about your use of the Spoiler or suggestions for
its further improvement, you've find the Spoiler's authors responding with
hours of receipt.

A registration form for your convenience is included at the end of the
440 Spoiler Technical Reference Manual.
