FILES ON THIS DISK ================== 1. Your CAT980 disk contains the following files: A. CAT980.EXE This is a stand-alone, executable program. B. CAT980.CFG This is a configuration file you can rewrite. C. *.MNU These are menu files - you can create more! D. *.MEM These are memory load files - you create too! E. CAT980.DOC This is what you read when all else fails. F. README.TXT This file. A friend of mine in the amateur retail biz said a lot of folks have picked up a YAESU(tm) interface unit. If you have one you will probably go straight for the throat and call up cat980.exe. That's fine, it defaults to COM1: and you can use <^p> to pick ports 2 thru 4 before it captures the FT- 980 transceiver. will pop up a help display. But after you get that out of your blood, please take time to review the doc file. This program has features far beyond the radio. Scanners, additional frequency commands, memory control, 300 new frequency memories - and an ability to 'read' files you can write to deploy the radio to suit your operating interests. Read it; you'll like it. And if you don't have or plan to obtain a commercial interface, check out Appendix D in the doc file. I have included a schematic of a simple interface I use at this QTH. RUNNING THE PROGRAM I've run this program on an Epson Equity LT lap top computer which has the same screen specs as an everyday IBM and a desk top clone with a Hercules graphic card. They both run fine business. ABOUT PRINTING CAT980.DOC I've always had trouble printing large doc files where the writer was doing me a favor and putting in a lot of control characters to make it print correctly. It may have run fine on their printer but not on mine! I've tried not to do that to you. There are a couple of line feeds to make sure the schematic prints on a single page - but for the most part the doc file is free of such commands. I printed it at this QTH by using the MS DOS SetPrint command to skip over perforations for my Epson. If you don't have that version of DOS just use the print command straight out. Feel free to distribute these files, unmodified, to any BBS or fellow amateur. The more the merrier. Hope to hear from you.... K5YEF/Art Harding/PO Box 861719/Plano, Tx. 75074/USA
