Msg#:13989 *Shortwave Echo* 07-27-90 23:05:00 From: SKIP SANDERS To: TIM JOHNSON Subj: REPLY TO MSG# 13882 (RE: CUSTOMS/NUMBERS?) the US Customs have a system called "Customs Over The Horizon Enforcement Radio Network" (otherwise known as COTHERN) which has (I am told by an artile in the latest Monitoring Times) 10 channels (out of approximately 50+ channels available to US Customs in HF) which are scanned by Customs vehicles and bases. A digital "SELCAL" signal is sent out occasionally by various stations to allow propagation on each channel to be tested, and a central system to "know" what stations are contactable... when a unit wants to contact another unit, they send that unit's selcal code, and it responds, locking both onto one of the channels involved. Scanning then stops until manually restarted after the conversation is over. The Channels (that I know of) in this system are: 7527.0 8912.0 10242.0 11494.0 13312.0 (note that this is also a Flight Test frequency!) 15867.0 17952.0 18594.0 This leaves 2 more channels to find, likely either below 7527, or above 18594, I'd suspect. The Miami Customs C3I Center is "SLINGSHOT", and the Riverside CA Customs C3I center is "HAMMER" --- QuickBBS 2.64 reg * Origin: Gandalf's - San Diego, Ca - 619-466-9505 - VHST (1:202/302)
