Even though conditions were worse than last year, it shows the way that radioteletype can still get through in poor conditions. Don't forget that logs must be in by the beginning of September. Don't miss out -- you could earn yourself a certificate for your state, but you have to put in that entry, and quickly! ------------------------------------------- More about conditions Propagation has been quite poor recently, with Clem VK6CW reporting that he could hear ZL stations working Jim VK2BQS on 20 metres after the broadcast but could not hear Jim to have a QSO with him. Unfortunately we still have something like 10-12 months to go to the botom of the cycle, so there will be many more days like that. I was listening to the WIA repeater the last night and heard one old timer remark that even now conditions were worse than last cycle. He said he could always get through on 20 metres last time, but lately there has been nothing getting through, and he had heard that the northern hemisphere was suffering similar problems (this last va satellite packet). Clem VK6CW has had communication via a HF AMTOR mailbox with our erstwhile relay officer John G0SPO (ex VK2CFJ). John appears to have settled in well at his second location (the first had site restrictions which prevented a tower). John said that Australia was mentioned in the news because of the four-year drought over here. At the same time he said that it rained at his location for the first time in a month. England is still a bit dry apparently. and a note from Jim VK2BQS ... -- And Pat, as a sequel, on Wednesday 24th I managed a very brief and broken contact with John J., my signal seemed to be reaching him better than the return as he acknowledged several of my remarks while I had difficulty making sense of much of his but at least it was a contact which we both recognised.-- ----------------------------------------- IPS weekly report ----------------- 19 August - 25 August 1994 Issue No 34 Date of issue: 26 August 1994 INDICES: Date 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 10cm 75 72 71 71 72 72 71 A 5 8 8 10 9 5 (15 estimated) T 23 23 26 22 28 29 26 SUMMARY OF ACTIVITY Solar activity was moderate on 19th, with an M1 flare. low on 21st, and very low for the remainder of the period.
