When members felt strongly enough in the past about the way the affairs of a division were being run that they opted to transfer to another division as a temporary haven, the result of this new ruling will now be to ensure that these people are lost to the WIA altogether. Is it not better to keep members in the fold, and their contributions helping the cause of Amateur Radio than to drive them out completely? Who will the WIA represent -- only a minority of licensed amateurs in the state so afflicted. What sort of voice will the WIA have when it cannot claim to represent a sufficient number of amateurs in the hobby? Will this lead to the establishment of a rival body? These are personal concerns of this writer, who did think of changing divisions in recent times, even resigning, but thought of the repercussions of this act multiplied by the many other amateurs with the same inclinations. The reason that I did not do this was that all things pass in the course of time, hopefully without lasting damage, and because of the need to keep the numbers up so that the SMA is still dealing with the representatives of many Australian Amateurs. I hope the Federal office will see the transfers as a means of sheltering from unwanted troubles and not as a form of poaching, because I am sure it was not the latter. de Pat VK2JPA --------------------------------------------- IPS weekly report ----------------- 08 July - 14 July 1994 Issue No 28 Date of issue: 15 July 1994 INDICES: Date 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 10cm 86 86 86 86 83 81 82 A 05 05 05 05 02 04 (15 estimated) T 29 30 29 32 28 33 38 SUMMARY OF ACTIVITY Solar activity was very low 8th-11th, and 13th July, and low on 12th and 14th.
