[Dragon's Lair] Although this game is only out in diskette form on the AMIGA, we have heard rumors of an ST version due late 89, so we have added it to the ST disk. You can demo the whole game, 18 minutes worth, by pressing and holding down the following keys after the have finished loading: R / L N 7 The screen will flash and all you have to do is press the fire button for the demo to start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dragon's Lair came on the scene of arcade games in the early part of 1983. Dragon's Lair was originally a laser disk oriented arcade game. It was quite popular and gave rise to other similiar games. The only problem most people had with it was remembering the joystick moves. This is animation at its best. The sound is the same as the original game, but unfortunately is cut short (sound is a memory hog). The object of the game is to get to the dragon, kill him and save the Princess Daphine. The game starts you at the bridge and after clearing that screen moves to other screens till you reach the end. Sometimes, to make things a little more difficult, the screen is reversed and so will be the joy-stick commands. Also screens can be thrown at you out of sequence, so you cannot prepare all the time. All the screens are uniquely different and once you have determined what screen you are looking at and whether or not it is reversed, you can work your way through. Timing is essential in this game. Just pressing the joystick in the right direction isn't enough. You have to do it at the proper time, also. THE BRIDGE SCENE: (This scene is always seen first) This is the starting screen and sometimes is shown in reverse (right is left and vice versa) Don't let it bother you, the moves are the same. This screen will also be repeated later in the game. Dirk will walk over the bridge, he will then fall through the wooden floor. The moat monsters tenacles will appear. DO NOTHING till the tenacles move towards Dirk, at that time press the fire button. As Dirk is swinging his sword at the monsters, push UP once and Dirk will climb up and go to the next scene. DRINK ME SCENE: (This scene is always second, after the bridge scene) Dirk will be moving forward towards the table where the DRINK ME sign is, don't do anything! When the door flashes, push the joystick towards the door. BATS IN THE CAVE SCENE: This scene is repeated several times during the game. Probably one of the hardest to get past with no help. Ignore the bats, they are there just to make you nervous. Let Dirk run towards the gap. When the stone across the gap flashes press the joystick in the direction the stairs are running. WEAPONS ROOM SCENE: Press the Fire button as Dirk walks into the room. While he is drawing his sword and the weapons rack flashes, press UP once or twice. He will then be jumping forward and as he is in the air press the joystick towards the door. As Dirk is jumping towards the door, press DOWN. Now, jump to the stool by pressing the joystick towards it and the opposite direction to leave the room (whew!). WHIRLPOOLS SCENE: (This scene is repeated several times) This scene will be repeated several times during the game, just press the joystick to the opposite side of the whirlpool to be safe. RAPIDS SCENE: (This scene is repeated several times) Move the joystick in the direction the water is flowing, then when Dirk is level with the river, press UP once and he will go down it, then just as soon as the screen changes, press UP to go over the rapids. GREEN SLIME DRAGON SCENE: (This scene is repeated several times) Dirk will enter the room and go to the table with bottles. He will grab one of them, and a monster will grab him.. When the screen changes, press the FIRE button. BRICKS SCENE: (This scene is repeated twice) A very easy scene to get through... just wait till the last moment to push UP on the joystick to jump through the hole. This scene is repeated twice during the game. CHECKERBOARD ROOM SCENE: This room can be reversed so take your cue from which side Dirk carries his sword. Perform the moves as Dirk finishes each earlier move. If Dirk is carrying his sword on the left side: Right, Left, Forward, Left, Right, Left, Right, Fire Button to kill the black knight. Reverse the above moves if his sword is on his right side. GREEN MONSTER ROOM: Fire button several times. MARBLES SCENE: As Dirk turns his head to look both ways, press down. Continue as he moves down the screen. MEET THE DRAGON SCENE: This room is usually played once, and can be reversed. Take your cues from the location of the valuables. At the beginning, move towards the valuables to catch them. Now move away from the valuables. Move down to jump out of the screen. Move down again to catch the valuables. Press FIRE to use your sword. FINAL SCENE: This scene is done only once but can be reversed. Note the position of the pillar and which way its facing. Move DOWN and then move towards the open side of the pillar. Then move DOWN three times to get away from the tail. Press Fire. ENJOY THE SHORT ENDING, YOU HAVE EARNED IT!
