HOW TO UNPROTECT JAVELIN (version 1.1) First, make a copy of the Javelin Startup disk. NEVER, EVER, mess with your original disk! Next, using FM (on this disk) or Norton Utilities (NU) or even DEBUG, examine the file JAV0.OVL. Counting from the start of JAV0.OVL, look at sector 046. Sector 46, offset 368 (hex 170) contains an encripted serial number (5 bytes) and the "name" of the "user". If Javelin has not been installed, these bytes begin with 5 zero bytes and the word "Javelin". Change the serial number to 5 bytes of 00 hex. Change the user to some interesting thing such as "Clyde the Elephant Inc." Save these changes to disk. Next, search the file JAV0.OVL for the following hexadecimal bytes: Search for: 55 8B EC 56 57 BE 10 00 BF 3E 1D B9 05 00 Change to : 55 8B EC 56 57 BE 10 00 BF 3E 1D EB 0B 00 Search for: 2C 0A 0C 30 32 06 43 1D 75 17 BE 15 00 Change to: 2C 0A 0C 30 32 06 43 1D 90 90 BE 15 00 Write both changes to the disk. This completes the unprotection of Javelin. LET THERE BE SOFTWARE!
