Here are two files on the restoration of cellular telephone frequencies to the Bearcat BC950XLT/BC780XLT: Date: 13 Jun 90 16:49:42 Z From: N9AZZ@WD9EBQ Subject: BC950 XLT FIX Be sure the power is disconnected, remove the 4 screws holding the bottom cover.... remove the bottom cover, being careful with the speaker leads (molex plug) find the microprocessor chip, its a 64 pin at front of the board fine pin # 20, (indent on chip is 1) desolder or cut from the board (pin #20) solder a bridge between pins 19 and 20 replace bottom cover, apply power, and program something in the 870 to 890 range to confirm that it works.... I hope that this mod is still valid.... I think it will be with the 950, but I think they changed it in the later models, but they also changed the mod number I think. I believe that the 950 was named and made for scanner world in Newyork, but alot of the dealers got a hold of them. its a nice scanner, good luck and 73 oh yeah other scanner equipment here is as follows Icom R7000, Radio Shack Pro 2005, Bearcat 950 XLT, and Bearcat 200 XLT I have mods for all of the above.... 73 de Flip N9AZZ @ WD9EBQ.IL.USA.NA. Date: 18 Jun 90 13:16:40 Z From: N5HYD@WG5F Here's what I have on the 950XLT. Let me know if you need any other mods. 73 Doug Otoupal N5HYD @ WG5F.#WTX.TX.USA.NA Callbook - (915) 426-3679 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subj: BC950 CMT Newest from Uniden/Bearcat, the BC950 XLT (also know as the BC780XLT) can be modified for CMT coverage. Cut pin 20 of the main CPU at the PCB and lift it. Then solder a bridge between pins 19 and 20. This will restore CMT coverage. PROBLEM: If you have the CTCSS option installed, you will not be able to turn it off! (The CTCSS option, that is.) If this is OK with you, then go for it, otherwise consider which you need more, CMT or CTCSS! Also, the only known difference between the two aforementioned scanners is that the 950 is labeled (on the box) "Scanner World". Have fun!
