                                Volante
                                Warp 10+

                             by Tony Curro

"Captain, Warp 10 is all we have." Words like these are spoken in
Star Trek. However, you will say that Warp 10 is all you need. I am
referring to a super fast video card from Volante. When I first
installed it, I was blown away by the speed and graphic quality
    delivered by the board.

It includes drivers for Windows and DOS applications, and has 1MB of
memory. Received numerous awards, and rates over 24 million Winmarks
in testing. Will run on an ISA Bus 12MHz transfer, 8 or 16-bit BIOS
width. They also make a VLB version of the card. Support scan rates
up to 50Khz, and refresh rates to 72Hz. Has a feature connector for
use with multimedia capture devices. Uses the S3 accelerated chip.

    Warp 10+ uses Volante's proprietary Fast-Forward Driver
optimization. This compacts and reduces the transmission of bits and
vectors, without losing the integrity of the original image. All
    graphics appear sharp and crisp.

    Capabilities of card are:

    Resolution Display Colors

    1280x1024 16
    1152x900 16
    1024x768 256
    800x600 65,536
    640x480 16.7 million

I ran a test on two video cards using a program called, WinTach,
which is a shareware program. I ran the test in 640x480 256 color
mode. The program tests four areas. The higher number denotes best
    results. These are the results:

Area BOCA SVGA X3 Warp 10+

    WP 4.14 4.68
    CAD 5.74 10.30
    SS 4.76 12.16
    Paint 4.86 8.86

    Overall 4.88 9.00

As you can see, Warp 10+ was the faster. It is also very reasonably
    priced.

As we go to press we have received information on a new card being
released by NDI, the Volante Warp 20. The card is rated faster than
the Warp 10+. And the company is making it more attractive to get
the new card. They have come up with a "Trade-Up" policy. In
essence, you can trade you Warp 10+ or any other graphics card, and
receive a $100 credit to your method of payment. This offer is only
available directly from NDI. Mention that you want the "trade-up"
offer when you call. A voucher will be enclosed with the Warp 20.
Follow instructions for your rebate. The Warp 20 comes in 1MB and
    2MB versions.
