---=[Weekly Warez Report ]=---------------------------------------------

Okay.. one of the busiest weeks in the utility scene has just finished.. there were not many games released but shitload of fine utils and cd-rips. Looks like all major Microsoft programs were released in the last 7 days. The main topic of the utili ty scene this week was, surely, whether DOD release of windows 95 was a dupe or not, and what is the difference between it and previous NTA and SCUM versions. If you wanna know the whole story, and also read some comments about the activity of best utilit y groups - keep your eyes open on all shit listed below.

PWA (Pirates With Attitude) - group had a nice week..not the best in their career but anyway very good. They started with Arcada Backup Exec Server for Netware and finished with LONG-AWAITED-AND-MANY-TIMES-FAKED-AND-DUPED-BEFORE Microsoft Office 95 on 24 disks. All scene warriors were already tired of neverending dupes and fakes of betas and PWA release came in time. We all count on PWA quality in this one. Also PWA released some fine HP title called Open View on 5 disks in the middle of the week, and huge CD-RIP of Borland C/C++ 4.53. PWA is the name that has much less fuckups than most other util groups, but coz of lack of coordination or smth we saw 2 freeware releases come from them too. Fixpack for OS/2 is not a cool release for such well-known l abel as PWA. Hope next week will be much better for this respected scene veterans.

Score for this week: 7/10

PNC (PINNACLE) - nice to see this new group growing each day! More and more releases are coming from them and now we can all see the huge progress in their work. Sure we can still see the lack of organization, but such releasing power is impressive. P NC has shown to everybody that Microsoft is not taken fully by other groups like DOD or PWA and released few small things from there. Also, dring the weekend we saw long-awaited IBM developers programming hi-end - Visual Age C++ 3.0 for OS/2! They also h ad a few not so popular releases, like Internet Chameleon CyberSpace andTaskforce Commander. If this group will continue it's fast progress - it may soon replace some older groups at the top! Dudes.. look for it carefully.

Score for this week: 9/10

DOD (Drink Or Die) - What can i say..you all call boards and see the meggage we released this week. DOD started the week with some new Microsoft products, including both versions of Intellitype for keyboards and mouse, and very powerful accounting pro gram from world-famous Intuit software (QuickBooks Pro). Also, I can mention a netware tool called Pathworks 4.1 for Windows NT from the well-known DIGiTAL Equipment. We continued with some unknown MS Access addons called Total Access Analyzer and very cool but small program Hurricane 1.0 (best ram doubler/accelerator/win hdd and video cash). The top moment of the week for DOD was the release of Microsoft Visual Basic 4.0 Final and Windows 95 Final Full Pack. Many questions appeared after Win95 release. Here I want to clear all shit to prevent any misunderstanding. DOD released THE store CD version of Windows 95. It is not called beta or release candidate or gold. Thats a final copy that people will buy on 24th of August. Second difference from the pr evious SCUM and NTA releases of r6 - it is not an UPGRADE! You can simply install DOD's Windows 95 over Win95 betas, Win or DOS environment. Also you all may have heard the rumor about time bomb placed in Win95 r6. Nobody knows is it true or not except Bill Gates and many dudes dont want to risk! DOD version of Win95 HAS no time bomb at all coz it is the final product. Hope you will all quit asking me about Win95 after this explanation. In the very last day of the week DOD finished the weekend with s uch monsters as MetaDESK 1.1.00 Client/Server and OmniPage 6.0 Professional! Hope you all enjoyed our hard work for you.

Score for this week: 10/10

NTA (Nokturnal Trading Alliance) - oldest group in scene had several titles but many dudes missed them coz of the lack of trading. I can only mention one thing called Image Plus 2.0 for OS/2 that I personally got. Anyway our scene grandpa Mikeysoft doe sn't want to give up! Count on more releases from him and his slaves soon.

Score for this week: 6/10

SCUM (SCUM is SCUM :) - SCUM was kinda slow this week.. just several betas happened like Hyperaccess 6.0 beta 3 for OS/2.. also some unknown products called: Mountain Splendor and Antony Casey Collection - 3 disks each. Same situation remaines in SCUM for a long time so such inactivity is not supri- sing. We all hope that this group will be more alive soon.

Score for this week: 4/10

Thats all about biggest util groups.. here i will just let you know about other new hot-shots of the week. we can see PANTERA releases pretty often for the last few weeks. They did have some dupes/fakes, but this group has the potential to participate in competiton sometime soon! X-FORCE shows us that they are still alive, but the quality of their releases is not high enough to write a special report about. Also wanna mention some new group called SCSI.. specialized in cd-rips, we lately see some kick -ass utilities from them, like 3-D Studio 4c1 and some NT program in sunday. All other groups are not worth the time to be added to this report. Work better and we will make you well-known all over the world! C ya in the next issue of WWN! -Jimmy Jamez [DoD President]

---=[ Weekly Warez Report ]=---------------------------------------------

Well here it is! Warez Report #3 starting from 08/06/95 to 08/12/95! This week has really been a busy week by just looking at all the releases! In this week, you will find biggies such as PNT's WinNT Workstation, PWA's 34 disker Borland C++ v4.53. And for OS/2 fans, PINNACLE brings you their 51 disk release of VisualAge C++ for OS/2! We also find two MS Office for Win95 releases.. One is 29 disks (mso95-xx.zip) and is rumored to be a fake? Who knows.. To crush those rumors, PWA has released MS Office Real Final for Win95 at 24 disks. As for Win95, DOD has released Win95 FullPack Final at 17 disks. This is said to be the FINAL version of Windows 1995 ... I hope that this weeks Warez Report will be very informative.... If you have any suggestions or comments, leave feedback to mercury@escape.com!!!!!

Web Browser Add-On's

New and upcoming technology on the internet includes RealAudio, Java, and VRML. These new add-ons to your high profile Web Browser give you the ability to do special things, and help to guide the technology into the future. RealAudio gives you the ab ility to listen to music from the Internet in real- time (well, almost real-time). Java is a new animation system similar to HTML that adds on to your Browser and gives you the ability to view animation and scrolling while on a website. VRML is a new vi rtual reality add-on that lets you navigate a web site using "rooms" where you move your mouse or cursor "into" the site, and the page renders on the fly to give you a virtual reality perspective.

Real Audio can be found at http://www.realaudio.com. If you do not have the Browser add-on for Netscape or Mosaic (hopefully you are not using Mosaic...) then go to that URL and choose to download it and make sur e you follow the instructions as you install it. Once you have it installed, there are several sites that now support the RealAudio system... If you have your own site and would like to put real audio on the site so that people can listen to sound while v iewing your own web page, there is an encoder/converter on the RealAudio link that will convert your .WAV and .VOC files into .RA or .AU files (Files used by Real Audio). The links on the RealAudio site include ABC on-line, SUN, and MUSIC EXPRESS just to name a few. There is more and more music added daily, all of it commercial.

Real Audio works on the principle that you do not need to download the complete audio file to play it. The Real Audio system buffers upto 15 seconds of the music file so that it can still get a constant streaming of information (i.e. music) while it c ontinues to play. This gives the Real Audio system the ability to keep up with the constant flow, and there is no dropping of notes occurring. This method of transferring the music over the internet is very effective even for PPP connections down to 1200 BPS.

Java is a new and improved "HTML" scripting mark-up language that gives you the ability to see animation on a website. Currently there are no browsers available for the Windows 95 system. There are browsers available for 32 bit Windows NT, and Solaris, as well as Indigo, and UNIX V (SunOS). If you run Solaris, Solaris X86, Indigo/NeXT, or Windows NT, then make sure you go to the http://java.sun.com site to get the Browser for your particular operating system .

This new technology is definitely something to check out since most web sites will support JAVA shortly. There will be an add-on for Netscape for JAVA made shortly, both for the 16 bit and 32 bit versions. The reasoning there is a new Browser all together is the fact that it is a new markup language, not centered around HTML 3.0, which is what Netscape 1.1 is. VRML is the kewlest add-on for your Browser right now, if you can get hold of it. There are 3 versions, including Windows NT Netscape , Win95 Netscape, and the Solaris series systems. VRML is becoming such an attraction that they are now marketing the add-on for your Browser, trying to make money off this new technology is attractive to the corporate generals who control the scene right now. Since VRML is commercial, there is obviously a pirated version of the Browser add-on on the net. Look for it if you haven't installed it already. Since you can navigate the scenery "virtually", you can also hide doors and such to various F TP sites. This is a major concern for companies doing their best to control piracy, but who cares. They are there to supply us with the software we trade.

There are new VRML sites popping up every day, although the biggest one: http://www.vrml.com has gone down for some reason. It should be back up soon so that you can find the other VRML sites. VRML rendering comes ov er the net, and is based on openGL for Windows NT and Sun systems, and WinG for Win95. Since this is the case, rendering of the graphics is very quick compared to conventional C++ engines (the winG and openGL are integrated within the operating syste m) and HTML engines that would be used to make the real time imaging required for VRML. But, as with all rendering of full page graphics, this system is very processor intensive and can cause your computer to slow down tremendously. The openGL system is much more effective and is about 500% faster than the winG system used by Win95, but Microsoft will not implement openGL into Win95 at all, even in the Win95 updates. Rendering done on a Sparc system running Solaris is almost instantaneous, consid ering it is using Sun's openGL system and the Sparc is also a RISC chip. These new technologies are great add-ons for your internet Web Browser. Check them out. If you need more information on these new technologies, then check out the URL's listed a bove. If you are looking for the VRML add-on, contact _Warlock_ on IRC or look for it around so that you can install it and add it to your Netscape.

---=[ Interview - Orion ]=----------------------------------------------

When I first thought of interviewing Orion, founder and president of Pirates With Attitudes, I thought, great, I get to learn some stuff from one of the scenes most respected individuals. As the interview with Orion went underway, I got the impression - and so do others who know Orion very well - that he is a careful, sensitive, and a very intelligent man who knows what he is talking about when you speak to him about the scene. The interview went a little something like this :

WWN : Tell the reader a little background info of how Pirates With Attitudes got started (by/whom/why/etc).

ThePrez : "PWA started 3 years ago, With BarManager and myself. We were running INC at the time... We both and the majority of the group agreed that the games scene was heading into a tailspin of kids ruining it with thier ego's. Wanting to be number o ne can do alot to a person. Makes them forget the reason they started this.. And that is #1 to have FUN #2 to get the releases to use..We took a vote of the group, and all the dist sites sysop and all agreed 100% to go with the new look and new name... Th ere were only 2 that didn't go because we felt they were to wrapped into the ego trips.. That was American Gladiator and GateKeeper ... Since then PWA has found itself the resting place of alot of old Pirates like Rambone, Hannibal Lecktor, Rifleman.. In the three years we have absorbed many little groups, and a few large ones also. Like Scotch for instance."

WWN : Can you tell us why PWA isnt such strong competetion amongst the BBS scene? And It's lack of power in the scene overall nowadays?

ThePrez : "Well, PWA like every other group got caught in the Inet Whirlwind. It was this "new" thing and got caught up in it.. As many other groups did. We are heading back to the Basics now as we speak. If you look at the nfo of the new releases we a re throwing out, we are incorporating new BBS boards back into it... But like I stated earlier we just got caught into Inet world...",he continued "Lack of Power? Well really we didn't lose any power. Power isn't resolved because of the amount of relea se that one group does. Its the over all of the scene, we still have all our contacts and still have the major people in the scene connected with us... So we really didn't lose Power as you use that term.."

WWN : What do you plan/expect of PWA in the upcoming months/years? ThePrez : "Well after Blackhawk got busted, I decided for PWA to take a `reality' break, that lasted for 6 months. We are getting back into full swing now.. Blackie is coming back... W e are just going to have fun and fuck everyone else.. And when we do it we are just going to it with a TUDE..."

WWN : Can you give us just a little recap of what happend with the busting of BlackHawk/TAG? ThePrez : "Sure, He got busted for MS and Novell shit on his board... Kinda funny how it happened but that is another article you can ask him about... But in the short of it, he got all his equipment seized and phone records taken.. MS is looking for the neighborhood of 150K of reconcilation for `thier' troubles... He is and will be fine thru all this...PWA will survive and continue..."

WWN : Ok, Do you have any comments on regard to MikeySoft's Article about the "State of The Scene" in last week's WWN?

ThePrez : "You can print my comment, and I hope you do...Mikeysoft and I have been working for months on the concept of bring the scene to a all time high. And that is to form UNITY a group just one group in the scene...I believe in what MikeySoft had to say 100%. Vendors and Software companies i.e. Micorsoft, IBM finanally found out that actually need us. We beta thier software better then they "on payroll" beta testers..."

And with that last question, ended my short, half hour [Thats all the busy guy could spare :)] interview with Orion, the president and founder of Pirates With Attitudes Ended....Who knows the future of PWA and it's BBS's , Members, and even Presidents?

"Trouble in `The Cartel'?"

This week's rumor section brings us to the well known couriering group, `The Cartel'. Thanks to unrevealed sources, we here at WWN have found out that there is quite alot of tension going on inbetween The U.S.A Division and The Euro Section of The Car tel. My sources say that The Cartel just might split and re-group because of these tensions... Could it happen? Possibly. Is TheCartel really having inner conflicts? Possibly. Can My Source be full of shit? Possibly...... -Merc ury

"Poo'S House Shutting Down!"

Whats up fewlios..... PooBiS here....

The DoD/RTS Site Poo's House will be down starting Monday, August 14th for many different reasons. I need to move into my new dorm, upgrade to a new CPU, and go to Las Vegas to see the Tyson fight. It will be back up FOR SURE on Sept. 1st at the late st, possibly August 25th at the earliest. Please do not flip out and cause a brain hemorrage. The site will be back up soon with a P-90, 32 Megs RAM, 3 Gigs, and the same old *phat* T3 connection. So dont be dismayed if you can't connect... It will be ba ck if effect soon, and BETTER THAN EVER!

If you have questions, comments, or just want to gripe about it being down, /msg [Mercury] on iRC. I'll let him deal with that shit ;). -PooBiS -=l33to like dat=-

Shouts go out to: Merc (Big Poppa ;) ), Krakhed (l33ch3r!), Exodus (My MiRC partner), Studster (Late night partner), and Warlock (Me with blonde hair?)

"Windows 95 Final Release by DoD"

Ok, here are the reasons why this new dod release is not a dupe of any previous version of Windows 95. For one, This has files, if you check the dates past august, which no other version has had. Another thing different about this release is that this version is not an upgrade. This may cause some confusion as to what I mean. Previous versions you have needed to install from windows and have a version of Windows installed (obviously) such as Windows 3.11. This particular version needs nothing except D OS.

Another thing that is different about this is the fact that this contains some extras. This contains some extra files, which we did not see in SCuM's beta r6, and NTa's Gold (if they are different, which is another arcticle altogether :) ).

Another thing that may raise some questions is that, when you are in MS-DOS-SHELL, and you type 'ver', you will see Windows 95. [Version 4.00.950] This does not mean Beta 950, this, in fact (coming directly from my supplier's mouth at MS) means that th is is version 4.0 -ergo- Windows '95.

And finally, if you have installed this version, you will note that there is a passwd and login option in this version, which no other version has had.
