MAIN RADIANCE DISTRIBUTION SITE hobbes.lbl.gov (128.3.12.38) If you are picking this up from an ftp redistribution site, then you may want to check out the original site if you decide you like the software. Hobbes.lbl.gov is for Radiance program distribution, models, software, and examples. Radiance is free ray tracing software for lighting simulation and rendering. It is not public domain, and we ask that no one try to resell it under their own name. If you do, you will go straight to hacker's hell where you will be forced to write control software in 6502 assembler and eat crystallized jelly doughnuts for all eternity. The main distribution file containing source code and documentation is "Radiance2R1.tar.Z". This file is 4.5 Megabytes, so be sure to check that you are in binary mode BEFORE you grab it. If you have a previous release of Radiance, you should also read the file ReleaseNotes first to find out what has changed in this release. If you are calling from the European continent, you may wish to pick up the distribution locally from our ftp site in Switzerland, dasun2.epfl.ch (128.178.62.2). There is also a set of 2D vector graphics and plotting routines that may be of interest in the file "meta1R0.tar.Z". The pub directory contains several subdirectories with contributions from here, there and everywhere. If you wish to contribute, please look at pub/README first. In particular, you should pick up whatever is in the pub/patch directory. If you have any questions regarding this archive, send mail to greg@hobbes.lbl.gov I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you use Radiance in your work, please give credit to the Lighting Systems Research Group at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory as well as the U.S. Department of Energy and the LESO group at EPFL in Switzerland. I wouldn't mind seeing my name in print, either, but those guys pay my salary so mention them first. Thanks. -Greg Ward
