Requirements for GIF Software Developers GIF [Graphics Interchange Format] (tm) is a new standard developed by CompuServe for the telecommunications industry. It is CompuServe's goal to make this a universal standard with no restrictions on its incorporation into software as long as the following statements are complied with: 1) Adherence to the current GIF standards within the capabilities of the hardware that GIF software would be developed for as outlined in the "GIF Specification" document. 2) Documentation in electronic media and hard-copy format included with any product that incorporates the GIF protocol, are required to include the following statement: "GIF and 'Graphics Interchange Format' are trademarks (tm) of CompuServe Incorporated, an H&R Block Company" CompuServe has built into the GIF standard enough flexibility and extensibility to be a viable product for many years to come. We would like YOU to share in the knowledge and support this exciting new technology. CompuServe prefers all of the popular graphics based computers to have a level of GIF support. This would include GIF encoders and decoders written for microcomputers as stand-alone software, as a part of telecommunications software and for host computer software applications. This will include complimentary access to an area containing microcomputer language source files for GIF, host based library routines used in conjunction with GIF and direct contact with CompuServe Associates knowledgeable in the GIF technology.
