York was the venue for the first Conference of the UK chapter of Eurographics. The Conference will give participants the opportunity to hear about latest advances in the field and to meet with colleagues in this area. Social events at the Castle Museum on the Tuesday and during the Conference Dinner on the Wednesday will give ample opportunities for informal discussions in relaxed surroundings. CONFERENCE FORMAT ----------------- The Conference begins with a day of tutorials relating to the Conference themes of `The Application of Computer Graphics to Modelling' and `Electronic Publishing'. The second and third days will be devoted to papers from invited speakers and papers accepted by the programme committee which have been submitted for consideration. There will also be an exhibition. SOCIAL EVENTS ------------- Tuesday evening's social event will take place at the Castle Museum. Re-experience shopping as it used to be in the authentic streets of Victorian Kirkgate and Edwardian Half Moon Court. On Wednesday evening the Conference Dinner will be held in Alcuin College which has a splendid panoramic view of the University campus. TUTORIAL DAY (TUESDAY 30 March) ------------------------------- Full-day tutorials: GEOMETRIC MODELLING (Huw Jones) This tutorial will will give an overview of a range of `classical' methods, including Pure Primitive Instancing, Cellular Decomposition, Spatial Subdivision, Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) and Boundary Representation (B-Rep) techniques. ENVISIONING 3-D STRUCTURES (Bob Parslow) Thinking in 3D is of immense value to scientists, yet is extremely hard to do. This interactive `hands-on' tutorial will look at 3D problems and help you to think in 3D. Half-day tutorials: MARRYING COMPUTER GRAPHICS AND VIDEO (Chris Osland) This tutorial will cover state-of-the-art developments in the use of video techniques in conjunction with computer graphics. (Morning tutorial). SGML/HyTime (Michael Popham) The Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and its application designed for multimedia, HyTime, will be described and presented. (Afternoon tutorial). EXHIBITION ---------- An exhibition will be held on 31 March and 1 April. Tours will also be organised round local facilities of interest.
