During the month of February, Carl Eugene Loeffler, Project Director,
Telecommunications and Virtual Reality, CMU, will conduct
presentations on the subject of NETWORKED VIRTUAL REALITY at the
following:
 
Computer Science Laboratory, SONY Corporation, Tokyo.
 
College  Art Association, Seattle.
 
Simulated Presence: Critical Response to Electronic Imaging, Arizona
State University, Tempe.
 
Carl Eugene Loeffler is Project Director, Telecommunications and
Virtual Reality, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, CMU. The Project
investigates the basis for multiple users located in distant
geographical locations, to be conjoined in the same virtual, immersion
environment. The project employs telecommunication hardware, as well
as the hardware associated with virtual reality: head mounted display
(HMD) and multi-directional navigation devices., and utilizes
WorldToolKit, a virtual world development program, available from
Sense8 Corporation.
 
Technical demonstrations were conducted for the Expedition 92
Conference, Munich, Germany, and for the World Design Conference, Ford
Motor Company, Dearborn, USA. The Ford application featured a virtual
design studio, test driving track, and showroom,
 
Other current lectures were conducted at: AI in Media, Japan; EDUCOM,
USA; National Communications Forum, USA; Third International Symposium 
on Electronic art, Australia; MultiG Seminar- Virtual Reality, Sweden;
Telematics -92, Norwegian Telecom Research, Norway.
 
Virtual Realities: Anthology of Industry and Culture, edited by Carl
Eugene Loeffler, will be published by Gijutsu Hyohron Co in Japan early
in the year.
