From: bryan@prism.gatech.edu (Bryan D. Williams) Subject: TECH: Powerglove source Date: Tue, 22 Dec 1992 12:28:45 -0500 I recently ordered a Powerglove directly from Mattel (1-800-635-5511). I called them on a lark and was surprised when they told me they were selling them. The cost was US$30.00 (including shipping). According to what I was told, they have about 80 left. There are some caveats, however. First, they required payment in advance (by _check_; no credit card accepted). Second, from what I was told it sounds as if the gloves that remain are reconditioned ones that were repaired after being sent back by the original purchasers. Third, the glove they sent me came without instructions; if you order from them, it would probably be a good idea to explicitly ask that they send instructions along with the glove. Fourth, the glove I received from them didn't work, though they're replacing it for free and paid for the return postage on the broken one I sent back (maybe you can get _that_ one :-). And fifth (don't worry, this is the last one), I received conflicting information from different operators at the 800 number concerning whether Mattel is still selling the gloves to the general public. In four calls, twice I was told that Mattel is selling the gloves and twice I was told they aren't. The last time I spoke with them, when I was making arrangements to have the defective glove replaced, I had to press a bit to get the operator to say that they were still selling the gloves. If you decide to try out this Powerglove source, others reading sci.v-w might like to hear about your experience with them.
