From: Subject: Re: SCI: VR "Turing Test" Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1993 03:19:16 EST Organization: Penn State University ...Some aimless thoughts dribbling from my fingertips... The Turing Test, remember, gave the computer an advantage in that "Side 1" of the test was a "judge" sitting at a keyboard (on the computer's turf!) talking to the computer. "Side 2" was a human "judge," sitting at a keyboard (STILL on the computer's turf! Go Figure!) talking to ANOTHER human. Why don't we extend that little anamoly to this proposed VR-Turing Test? Give the computer an advantage again -- this time give the judge an HMD to wear for both sides of the test: Side 1, VR. Side2, the HMD acts as a relay to the actual world (2 video cameras on your head? Could be fun.) ...or at least until somebody develops VR equipment that's transparent to the user.
