From: tcasady@nyx.cs.du.edu (tim casady) Subject: TECH: Virtual-worlds on the net? Date: Tue, 8 Sep 92 03:38:15 GMT Organization: Nyx, Public Access Unix @ U. of Denver Math/CS dept. Anyone who knows of articles/books/sources/etc. that deal with the virtual worlds on the net (the virtual environments found in mud's or boards rather than full-blown 3-d virtual reality systems) or who has strong interest in such worlds: I doing graduate research on the communication that occurs in the virtual-worlds on the net. Specifically, this deals with human to human communication and how the net affects it. This covers a lot of issues: how people relate to one another when they cannot see anything about the other person (looks, handicaps, race, gender), how people are able to reveal things about themselves or do things on the net that they would not do in real life, how big-name people can suddenly become anonymous on the net, etc.) If you know of sources on such topics, or if you would like to talk about such topics, please leave me email at bampf@iastate.edu.
