Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field and be committed to high-quality teaching and research in computer graphics or computer security. Senior applicants must have distinguished research records. Applications for short-term faculty positions in other Computer Science areas will also be considered. Appointments can begin at any time. The Department consists of 28 full-time faculty and offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science. Students are highly motivated military officers or civilian employees of the U.S. Department of Defense and allied countries, and are fully supported by their sponsoring organization during their studies. The department plays a very active role in DoD research in artificial intelligence/robotics, computer graphics/virtual reality, computer security, computer systems/architecture, database/data engineering, and software engineering/real-time systems, with a growing research budget that exceeded 2 million dollars in FY92. Departmental facilities (supported by ten full-time computer professionals) include seven instructional and research laboratories with extensive state-of-the-art workstations and personal computers. Tenure-track faculty normally teach two quarters and perform research two quarters per year. The Monterey Peninsula area provides a pleasant coastal climate and easy access to Silicon Valley companies.
