Yes.  Jaron Lanier of VPL has been suggesting this for years, also for
medical rebilitation and childhood development.  A VR system can
"alter the law of physics" for various purposes.  One could slow down
or ease up gravity or time, etc. to help people learn a physical
skill.  Alternatively, one could increase physical demands beyond the
ordinary as a training stress.

One could certainly make home sports devices more entertaining- you
could ski, bike, run, canoe, parachute, climb- some simulated
environment
