Might want to take a look at the May (or June?) Radio-Electronics, 
_Video News_ section.  Apparently the radiation output of most modern
Crts is less than the background radiation (at least x-rays), but one
manufacturer has to pull sets and stop a shipment because they weren't tested 
with techniques mandated back in the early days of tv.  None of the tvs 
exceeded the limits, but because they were not tested the "proper" way, 
they could not be sold.
