Date: Tue, 5 May 1992 17:32:44 GMT Message-ID: <1992May5.173244.24667@u.washington.edu> Organization: WORLDESIGN, Seattle I'm curious to see the response to John Gantz, one of the computer industry's stellar analysts, who editorializes in this month's (May 1992) COMPUTER GRAPHICS WORLD, "A Virtual Market," Too much market hype may hamper the success of virtual reality technology. ...Perhaps the VR industry ought to learn the AI lesson. Once the hype blew away in a market correction and the overzealous got their comeuppance, the industry was able to make headway in a much saner fashion. So where is the hype? Seems to me that things are quieting down except on the fringes, and that real applications are making it to the fore. Is Gantz reflecting on old history, or are we still guilty as charged?
