From: t9114209@phillip.edu.au Subject: TECH: straight lines straight in VR? Date: 4 May 92 15:59:26 GMT Organization: Phillip Institute of Tech, Melbourne I'm part of a group of people working on a low scale Virtual Reality System. We have designed all the equipment and are in the process of building a prototype. However, because we are using fresnel lenses to "wrap" the flat image around each eye, we not only have a lot of distortion at the edges, but due to the concavity, straight lines appear to be bent! If anyone of you all powerful Virtual Reality Gods can direct me to some example source or references to "line bending according to lense type" I would be extremely greatful. I have had no exposure to any upmarket equipment, such as the VPL eyephones, and would be interested to know what type of lenses they use, and how they combat the problems of displaying straight lines. I have read through the FAQ and slowly moving through all the postings, and I have yet to find a discusion on this problem, if it has been discussed please direct me to the relevent month/year!
