I would add STAR TREK, "Where No Man Has Gone Before (original series, premier
episode!).

On a similar note, I would add "Faustus"; certainly the deal that the Brosnan
character makes with his Mephistophelean employers in his quest for knowledge
and power, and his final descent into Hell are both interesting parallels.

And one more to add to the list: "Carrie", also by Stephen King.  Even down
to the involvement of some slightly-deranged religious types who are the
targets of telekinetic revenge.  (SPOILER: and how different is the hand from
the grave from the telephones ringing?)
