From: esf007@cck.coventry.ac.uk (Gorth) Subject: SCI: Psychology regarding vw Date: Thu, 5 Mar 1992 14:34:36 GMT Organization: Coventry Polytechnic, Coventry, UK I've seen videos and documents on vw tech and on hearing the responses from people that have been in the vw and experienced v-reality I have some worries about the psychological effects. There will be many good effects, especially analogous with dreams and the sub-conscious being able to lower stresses of everyday life but, there will be BAD effects too, (as with life there are two sides to consider). I heard one person on a horizon video telling how when in the v-world he went 'up' and looked down on his world from up above. He mention how, even though he knew people were around him he felt a great lonelness and wanting to be back with real people, (I forget the exact quote). It occurs to me that we ought to be studying these pychological effects which I have observed can produce VERY pronounced changes in mood in both positive and negative ways. I would like any comments but especially anyone with pyschological qualification, with specific regard to vw addiction, manic-depression mood induction other abuses of the technology, and way to cure and prevent psych-problems becoming apparent.
