From: Jayson Raymond x3227 Subject: TECH: Networking Standards Date: Tue, 9 Jun 92 11:44:46 PDT For those interested in networking standards applicable to VR (and as mentioned previously), the Distributed Interactive Simulation standard is probably the most applicable and most encompassing to date for VR applications, as it is derived from the standard utilized for Simnet, with over 250 manned objects and many more automated, interacting in a single virtual environment. Forwarded from Simulation Digest ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Jun 92 18:23:56 EST From: BRUCE MCDONALD Subject: Seventh DIS Workshop To: Simulation Digest Please include this announcement in the next Simulation Digest. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SEVENTH WORKSHOP ON STANDARDS FOR THE INTEROPERABILITY OF DEFENSE SIMULATIONS presented by Simulation Training and Instrumentation Command Defense Modeling and Simulation Office University of Central Florida Institute for Simulation and Training ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WORKSHOP BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES This is the seventh workshop concerning the development of technical standards for networking simulations. These standards are intended to meet the needs of large-scale Distributed Interactive Simulated (DIS) engagement systems, which are being used increasingly to support system acquisition, test and evaluation, tactical warfare simulation, and training in DoD. The purpose of the seventh workshop is to: Review the first draft of Version 2.0 of the PDU Standard. Review the first draft of the Communication Architecture Standard. Review the second draft of the Fidelity, Exercise Control, and Feedback Requirements Standard. Review requirements related to the correlation of environment models. Begin defining requirements for Field Instrumentation. Begin defining requirements for linking DIS to other simulations. GENERAL INFORMATION Registration Advance registration is requested. Please call or return the attached form before August 21, 1992. A registration desk will be located at the Holiday Inn Conference Area during the following hours: Registration Monday, September 21 10:00am-1:00pm 5:00pm-9:00pm Tuesday, September 22 7:30am-5:00pm Wednesday, September 23 7:30am-5:00pm Thursday, September 24 7:30am-5:00pm All registrants must check in at the registration desk to receive an identification badge which must be worn at all workshop functions.
