From: wirehead@thedeck.Eng.Sun.COM (Mark Koch) Subject: TECH: SEGA to SPARCstation (Notes...) Date: 4 Jun 1992 00:08:10 GMT Message-ID: Organization: Sun Microsystems Thanks to Dave Stampe for his insite on how the LCDs work. It turned out that my problem resulted from the fact that the SPARCstation has two jumpers on the CPU board to select the voltage level on the serial ports. The standard setting is a +/-5 volt swing(RS-423 mode) on the serial port. By moving the jumpers, (you'll need to cut two traces and solder two jumpers on the original SPARCstation 1 board), the voltage levels will be changed to +/-12 volt levels (RS-232 mode) needed to drive the SEGAs. Remember to check the "SPARCstation installation guide" under "Serial Port Mode Selection" for more details. The results were spectacular!!! Mark Koch
