From: "Richard M. Coffey" Subject: TECH: No need for "GOD" Date: Mon, 13 Jul 92 00:42:04 MDT Hi :), Well I have been listening for a while and I think its time I shared my own opinions(don't be too upset!) First off, Jeremy, don't give up hope! I don't think we need a main server for our reality sharing. As long as we have a common high level OS, high level meaning 3D icons, etc, then we don't need a GOD or big brother. My thinking in this operating system reflects either the real world or a better world; region to country, country to state, state to city, city to area, area to neighborhood, neighborhood to building, building to door, then either your doorway leads to another reality or to a room: you seewhere I'm going. Of course that isn't very efficient, maybe a Bill and Ted "phone booth" over "phone lines" may be better.8) I don't know. Secondly, the idea of one master scares me. One thing in control. One place has the power. HEY! I'm a power hungry human too!<8) Big Bro. and all! Then again, if the master was really the slave, i.e. the master only executed the reality (one computer on reality, one computer each on particpants) it would be O.K. This is all important to think about. Finally, I would like to know if there are any homebrew HMD manufactures out there. I am trying to piece together a group at the University of Utah (not necessarily affiliated with the school :) ) to study VR and all its aspects. I need low ( and I mean low! ) cost VR equipment from anyone.(Don't worry Mr. Brain I'll be talking to you soon!) I think it is wonderful that we have a forum on this technology to help shape it before it mutates out of control! Keep it up, fellow rainbow chasers -the richmeister- formerly known as: Richard Coffey email : c-crm@math.utah.edu P.S. Now what was that cool quote that George Bernard Shaw once said? "You look at things in the world and ask WHY?" "I think of things that never were and ask WHY NOT?" -George Bernard Shaw (I think! 8)) ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE RIGHT NOW!
