From: mep@vortex5.cs.caltech.edu (Mike Palmer) Subject: TECH: Hardware to go from a pair of X windows to stereo VR helmet? Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1992 00:47:52 GMT Organization: caltech My research group would like to use two X windows displayed on the same monitor to generate stereo images for a VR helmet. I need to get from the monitor's video, (which is a Sun 1280x1024 display running at 76Hz) to a pair of NTSC video signals. Does there exists a black box I can buy that will take an partial area of the monitor and output an NTSC signal? (Then I could presumably use two of these black boxes and tell them to look at the two areas of the screen where I will put the two windows.) Does anyone out there currently do this? Or does anyone have a better idea of how to go from two X windows to a VR helmet? Anyone have any suggestions of hardware companies I might call to inquire? Thanks, Mike Palmer
