[MODERATOR'S NOTE:  Scott has it right, and he has it wrong.  There IS an
NSF meeting coming up, to discuss a research agenda for the field.  If
anyone reading this has information about it, that would be great.  I
believe the meeting is set for early February.  More details, please.

The meeting taking place next week is hosted by the NAS, the National
Academy of Sciences, and is not open to the public.  A report from NAS
representative Marjory Blumenthal follows, in a separate posting. --
