I like Bob's suggestion to post offered papers to a
sci.virtual-worlds archive. Some universities are
already providing their internal technical reports
in this manner.

The transition to virtual journals would be less
painful if they began by augmenting the existing
paper journals, possibly providing extra detail that
couldn't be published. I seem to remember however,
that the IEEE dismissed the idea of providing its
journals on electronic media because they earn a
significant part of their revenue from publishing
journals.

In any event, it seems to me that the key issues
are the accessibility and shear volume of information.
(Keeping up with this newsgroup is a task in itself!)
I've come to the sad conclusion that knowledge is
effectively infinite. Maybe VR can help with the
information overload by assisting us to navigate the
information space.
