In response to the many requests for REND386 from people not on the Internet
proper, I dug up some information about the "ftpmail" service.

"Ftpmail" provides a way of getting ftp'able files via electronic mail.
For details, send a message with no subject and the word "help" in the
body to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com and you'll receive a reply giving you more
information.

DO NOT overload this service! It is apparently provided as a courtesy by
the folks at DEC, and could be pulled off the air if it's abused.

The files you want are on sunee.uwaterloo.ca in the pub/rend386 directory.
They're called demo.zip and devel.zip (get demo.zip first, try it, and if
you want to do development get devel.zip). Since they're binary files,
you'll need to have them sent uuencoded and then uudecode them on your end.

If you don't know what this means, or are otherwise confused by the process
of transferring files from machine to machine, please consult your local
experts (Dave and I would rather spend our time enhancing REND386 than
answering questions about ftp, uuencode, uudecode, zip, ftpmail, etc etc).

Sorry, we don't have the resources at the moment to start mailing out floppy
disks; our best advice is to find a friend who's on the Internet and get them
to move the files to floppy for you.

Incidentally, there's a (slightly) newer version of the software on sunee;
the only changes are a fix to polar viewing mode in the demo, and support
for backspacing in prompt fields (in the demo and in the askfor() function).

The source code for the floating-point C version should be available soon;
we'll announce it to the mailling list once it's ready. There will also
be an OFF2PLG converter ready soon; again, we'll announce it to the list
when it's working.

We won't be posting anything more about REND386 to this newsgroup; if you
want to be kept up-to-date, please send mail to:

               rend386-request@sunee.uwaterloo.ca

and we'll add you to our email list.
