The conference, which has run in MIT for the last three years is being hosted by Trinity College Dublin to reflect the importance of multimedia in Europe, and the establishment of an important multimedia centre in the college. The history of Trinity College stretches back over 400 years. Situated in the bustling heart of Ireland's capital, even today the College remains an oasis of seclusion and tranquility. Within its picturesque 40 acre campus, Trinity boasts superb buildings of character and charm which are outstanding examples of the architecture of their time---an ideal setting for our conference. Oral and Poster Presentations ----------------------------- Responsibility for the selection of abstracts/posters rests with the Scientific Committee. Notification of acceptance, or rejection, will be sent to the presenting author (the first named in the case of multiple authors) by January 15th. Presentations will be included in the programme only if the presenter's registration form and fee are received by February 15th. Registration ------------ The delegate registration fee allows admission to all scientific sessions, a copy of the Book of Abstracts (available at the conference), tea/coffee during official breaks, snack lunch daily, the Welcome Reception on March 24th and the Conference Dinner on March 25th. The fee for accompanying persons covers both the Welcome Reception on March 24th and the Conference Dinner on March 25th, Accompanying persons may not attend any of the scientific programmes or appear as joint authors on papers. Any other requirements must be notified in writing, to the Dublin Secretariat, in advance. Climate ------- Ireland has a temperate climate. The mean daily temperature for the month of September is around 8.1 degrees Celsius. We recommend you bring a light rain coat. Electrical Appliances --------------------- The electric current for utility appliances is 220 volts. Language -------- The official language of the conference will be English. Publications ------------ The delegate's registration fee includes a copy of the Book of Abstracts which will include all papers presented at the conference. In addition, a post-conference volume of selected papers (not included in the registration fee) will be published from among those presented at the conference. Prospective contributors to this volume should submit papers at the time of registration on the conference site. Travel ------ The official carrier for the conference is Aer Lingus---Irish International Airlines. A public bus service links Dublin Airport with the city centre. Taxis are available at Dublin Airport and at the city centre bus station. Insurance --------- The organisation committee and/or its agents will not accept any responsibility for any medical expenses, loss or accidents during the conference and we recommend that delegates insure themselves in this respect. Thursday March 25th o Dublin City Tour, 09.30--12.30 An introductory tour of Dublin, including a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral (associated with Dean Jonathan Swift) and the Irish Whiskey Centre, which contains an exhibition tracing the history and manufacture of Irish whiskey. Price: IR 15 pounds per person. This includes transport by coach, escorted by English speaking guide and entrance fees as indicated. The tour is subject to minimum of 25 people. It must be prebooked; no refunds for cancellations received after February 15th. Note: this tour will operate as the same time as the scientific programme and is primarily for accompanying persons. o Conference dinner (ticket to same included in registration fee).
