                               FIFTH SYMPOSIUM
                                      ON
                        HUMAN FACTORS IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS

           A forum for the exchange of ideas and reports on conceptual
           and empirical work in the area of Human Factors in MIS.


                              October 14 & 15, 1993
                      The Weatherhead School of Management
                         Case Western Reserve University
                                 Cleveland, Ohio

Deadline for submissions: February 28, 1993

The two-day symposium offers an opportunity to attend discussions and
present and respond to papers on a wide range of Human Factors (HF)
issues. A major part of the fifth symposium will be devoted to
behavioral and organizational aspects of Cooperative and Group Support
Systems (GSS). This will include a demonstration and critical
evaluation of GSS. Other appropriate topics include (but are not
limited to):

% Findings and Methodology of HF
% HF applications in MIS
% AI Applications in HF
% Usability
% Human Computer Interaction
% Learning
% Psychological Aspects of Users
% Design Aids
% Theories of Explanation for Expert Systems

The symposia have traditionally attracted scholars from departments of
MIS and computer science, as well as practitioners of HF in computing.
Among the diverse group of planned panelists are Ken Eason (England),
Tom Carey (Canada), Michael Ginzberg (US) and Ben Shneiderman (US).


Instructions for Submissions
----------------------------

1. Participants are encouraged to e-mail a short (150-words) abstract
to one of the addresses below for preliminary feedback.

2. Papers (including an abstract of 150 words or less) must
be no more than 20 pages, double spaced. Submit 4 hard copies and one
ASCII file on a floppy disk. Each copy should include a title page
with author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), address(es), phone
number(s) and e-mail address(es). APA style is requested.

3. Submit all copies of papers to Dr. Jane Carey at the
address below by February 28, 1993.


Publication
-----------
All accepted papers will be published in the symposium proceedings. In
addition, selected papers will become chapters in the fifth edition of
Human Factors in IS, published by ABLEX and edited by the symposium
organizers.  The papers will also be considered for a special issue of
Accounting, Management and Information Technologies, edited by
Professor Richard J. Boland, Jr.
