From: psa@aifbepsilon.aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de (Peter Sander) Subject: CONF: Entity-Relationship (ER92), Karlsruhe, Germany Date: 31 Jul 92 19:06:58 GMT Organization: University of Karlsruhe (Baden / Germany) Crossposted from news.announce.conferences: 11th International Conference on the Entity Relationship Approach October 7-9, 1992, Karlsruhe, Germany -Advanced Program- The 11th International Conference on the Entity Relationship Approach ER92 will be held from 7th to 9th October 1992 in Karlsruhe, Germany. Continuing its tradition the 11th conference will provide an international and interdisciplinary forum in which researchers and practitioners can exchange novel research, tool developments, and management experiences. The ER Approach is extensively used in many database and information system design methodologies and has become a de facto standard of most manual and computerized design tools. The conference program will consist of 22 presented papers, four invited papers and three tutorials. As invited speakers are expected: P. P. Chen (USA), S. B. Navathe (USA), A. W. Scheer (Germany) and D. Tsichritzis (Germany). In their talks they will emphasize on new directions and forward-looking topics related to the ER Approach. Tutorials will be given by S. B. Navathe and S. Chakravarthy (Heterogeneous Databases), R. Elmasri (Conceptual Modeling of Time), and B. Thalheim (Fundamentals of the ER Model). Furthermore the conference offers the possibility for tool and prototype demonstrations. Everybody who is interested in demonstrating software products or prototypes related to the ER approach should contact the organizers. The conference is sponsored by GI (Gesellschaft fuer Informatik) and ERI (ER Institute), and organized by the "Institut fuer Angewandte Informatik und Formale Beschreibungsverfahren" of the University of Karlsruhe. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PROGRAM Tuesday, October 6 18:00 Registration and Cocktail Reception ---------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, October 7 8:00 Registration 9:00 Opening Session Invited Talk: ER Trends, P. Karlsruhe is the German "Residence of Justice" with the Federal Supreme Court and the Federal Constitutional Court in town. Furthermore it is the main center of the newly founded Technology Region, and the cultural center of Baden. Karlsruhe offers possibilities for fascinating excursions due to its unique geographical situation. Alsace, the Black Forest and the famous cities Heidelberg, Baden-Baden and Strasbourg are at the city's doorstep. How to reach Karlsruhe By airplane: Frankfurt is the most important airport in Germany. There are good train connections between Frankfurt airport and Karlsruhe (approximately two hours). By train: Karlsruhe can be reached by train directly from all directions (Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Muenchen, Basel, Paris, etc.). Hotel accomodations Hotel reservations are arranged by the "Verkehrsverein Karlsruhe". A reservation form is enclosed in this message. Please complete the form and mail it to the "Verkehrsverein". Social events On Tuesday, October 6 at 6pm a cocktail reception will be offered to the participants in the foyer of the 'Kollegiengebaeude am Ehrenhof'. Come and enjoy a first drink and take the opportunity to talk to other people of the ER community. The conference banquet will be on Thursday, October 8, 7pm, in the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, Karlsruhe.
