One of the delightful surprises I discovered overseas was VR NEWS, a
new monthly published in England that covers the worldwide virtual-
worlds scene. This magazine, like Ben Delaney's CYBEREDGE JOURNAL
and Meckler's VIRTUAL REALITY REVIEW, edited by Sandra Helsel, has
its own personality -- decidedly British, low-key and somewhat droll.
Despite its title, VR NEWS is less "newsy" than the other magazines in
that it also offers more one- and two-page analyses of events, organi-
zations, and trends in the field. With MIT's PRESENCE, VR NEWS helps
fills the voids left by other journals' concentration on the more imme-
diate, product-oriented news. I know, it's starting to cost a bundle to
stay fully informed. In 1970, computer scientists started to feel like
you do...!

From Mike Bevan, Managing Editor of VR NEWS:

VR NEWS is an international newsletter covering Virtual Reality
events and activities. It is published monthly, except for August and
December, and is mailed to a worldwide subscriber base of which
around 55 percent is in the USA. Subscribers include telecommuni-
cations and computer corporations, academic research groups, film
and other entertainment companies, military establishments,
specialist developers, systems integrators, venture capitalists, and
private individuals (also one law practice specialising in high-tech
litigation...).

The newsletter was launched in January 1992 and complimentary
copies of the first two issues were mailed in quantity to a variety of
organizations in North America, Japan, and Europe. The subscriber
list is substantial and growing steadily. Lots of supportive faxes and
letters, including one recently from a major supplier of military VR
technology, describe VR NEWS as "objective, factual, practical, and
above all, relevant."

Each issue is currently 16 pages, and as well as news coverage
includes features on specific applications, technology subsystems,
and developer companies. We believe we were the first publication to
report on several important VR events in North America and Europe,
notably IBM's deal with Division, which was trailed in our March issue
and analysed in the April issue. We do not carry advertisements.

VR NEWS is published in London, England. Annual subscription charge
is L85.00 (within UK) or L95.00 (outside UK). Payment may be made
by cheque in sterling, US dollars ($175.00), or yen (Y25,000), or by
credit card sterling.
