As the moderator of sci.virtual-worlds, I try to make the information here
as freely accessible as it can possibly be, to build trust among the parti-
cipants and to build our field.

In the past, a book was published by Matrix that allegedly included much
of the information posted to this newsgroup. The main difference was
that the newsgroup was free; the book cost nearly $1000. Some of you
purchased this book and reported this information to me.

I do not know if there is any relationship between the publication of
the Matrix report on virtual reality and the new Matrix newsletter.
They are available from the same address, however, and apparently from
the same publisher. The person whose CompuServe number appears as the
apparent initiator of this message, if my memory serves me correctly,
was the publisher of the Matrix book. In any case, I have in the past
confronted the Matrix publisher and been dealt with in a most abusive
and even scandalous matter. (checkhov@engin.umich.edu, if not the same
person, has left his own pretty derogatory BS in this newsgroup...but
that's getting off the point.)

As moderator, I want to deal honestly with you, the participants of this
newsgroup. I want to assure you that your words will not be picked up
and used commercially by others. Of course, I cannot make this assurance.
Instead, I can only alert you to the possibility that the alleged infrac-
tions cited above can happen again if publishers act unethically. Our
main protection is to be vigilant and solid with each other.

Thanks.
