I received an ad from a book club describing the book _Virtual Reality_
by Howard Rheingold, which referenced the book as being published by
Summit Books in 1991 for US$22.95 at 415 pages, most probably hardcover.  
I haven't yet been able to get my hands on the book, but from the description 
provided by the book club (The Library of Computer and Information Sciences, 
which is selling the book for US$18.95), the book seems in large part to be
a documentary of ongoing research.

I've also found references to another 1991 book entitled _Virtual Reality_
by Judith Paris Roth, and perhaps a third of the same title (with a November
1991 release date (?)) by someone with the last name of Hammit (spelled
phonetically, probably not quite correct).  I haven't had the opportunity
to read any of these, so I can't offer any comparison.
