From: KWALLACE@ESTEC.BITNET Subject: Re: Designing virtual worlds Date: Tue, 22 Oct 91 14:45 MET I read your note on the virtual worlds network and was interested to find out more about what you do. I am also a would be VR world designer, though there seems to be no work in the area so far. I am currently working for ESA ESTEC, Nr to Noordwijk, NL. We are developing a prototype VR system on a SGI 240VGX. I carry out ergonomic studies and have recently started using our prototype to do fly throughs. I would like to know what sort of information you have on the creative side of VR, and would it be worth visiting your department at Delft ? What sort of equipment do you have etc. RE your question: There is a company in UK called Dimensions. Currently they do not use a glove or helmet but their software is really good. They use Autocad to model and have what seems to be a highly interactive interface for creating the kinematics, dynamics and animation playbacks. Their software is the best I have seen to date for VR/low end simulation. They have a stand at the Computer Graphics Show 5,6,7 November in London.....worth a visit. Address: Ian Andrews, Dimension International, Zephr One, Calleva Park, Alder- maston, Berkshire RG7 4QW, UK. Tel 0734 810077. ps You can put this on the network if you like. Its not possible for me.
