WORKING CONFERENCE	Ellivuori, FINLAND	AUGUST 10-14 1992

	ENGINEERING FOR HUMAN - COMPUTER INTERACTION

ORGANISATION

The 5th IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing)
Working Conference on User Interfaces is being organised for IFIP
Technical Committee 2 by its Working Group 2.7. It will take place at
Ellivuori in Finland, near Tampere. Participation will be by
invitation: all authors of accepted papers will be invited.  Presented
papers will be published as conference proceedings by North Holland.

TOPICS

This Working Conference is intended to bring together those interested
in strengthening the engineering and scientific foundations of user
interface development.

Papers are solicited on the functional requirements for human-computer
interaction, on the design, implementation, and management issues
involved in satisfying the requirements.

Topics of particular interest are:

* User interface design methodologies - principles and processes for
  developing state of the art user interface designs.

* Role of user models.

* User interface tools and techniques in areas such as:
    - User interface management systems
    - Adaptive and customisable systems
    - Intelligent interfaces
    - Use of knowledge bases
    - Data interchange for the end user

* Software Engineering aspects of user interfaces, such as:
    - Configuration management of user interfaces
    - Consistency of interfaces across applications
    - Impact of distribution on user interfaces
    - Portability
    - Formal models of interactive systems
    - Architectures

* Impact of cognitive psychology and human factors on user interface tools

* Advances in user interfaces, such as
    - Multimedia user interfaces
    - Browsing techniques and strategies
    - Incorporation of new l/O devices, such as body gestures, eye tracking,
      holographs, etc.
    - Computer supported cooperative work.
