Well, if people can quote Star Trek VR episodes, perhaps I can
point out to an even more fun "VR" reference. In the comic
book "The Fantastic Four #27" from June 1964 (The Search for
the Sub-Mariner) the Thing gets to try out one of the earliest
head-mounted displays...

   Thing: "Relax?!! Who can relax inside of a nutty contraption
           like this?!!

           It looks like somethin' Dr. Doom mighta dreamed up
           after eatin' too many stale pizzas!"
