I would prefer a system that superimposes information with reality as the background. Another way to handle this: LCD screens are a layer of selectively transparent or opaque material backed by a mirror (your calculator) or a light source (your goggles). It should be easy to place a sheet of LCD material on the front of the headset, a light source off to the side, then the LCD TV screen layer. When you want to see outside, you turn off the light source and make transparent the front of the goggles. When you want to see your display, make the front opaque and turn on the light. Simple.
