Yes, I know what you are talking about. As a matter of fact, we have just 
built a VR helmet using these screens. The ones we are using are made by 
Citizen. They are color, but low resolution about 200x300. They have controls
for tint and color and come with a battery pack which fits right on the back
of the screen, but takes 6 AA batteries and gets very heavy with the batteries
attached. They also have an AC input, which wwe are using, and a mini plug
video input which we converted to RCA (as well as an audio input, with an 
earplug output). I bought them here in L.A. for about $150 each. I don't see 
the resolution as a big problem because; 1) we are working on a low cost system,
2) They screens are so close to the eye (with lenses) that you don't notice
the resolution, 3) most importantly, we only need to generate low resolution
graphics which speeds up the number of frames per second we can display.
